I have tried 2 different scanners on my 2007 and trust me there are NO tricks. For some reason I have two OBDII units and neither one will communicate with my two Hondas: 2007 Odyssey, 2011 Accord. The 5v output from the PCM is critical to getting communication functions from the various sensors as well as data to the OBDII port & cluster. Power to the OBD2 port seems fine as scanners will power up, and I've checked various (but not all) fuses in the 3 locations (under hood, passenger footwell, trunk). First thing I would check for a communication loss is to make sure you have B+, ground and ecu ground as shown below at the obd2 port. Also, is there a way to check the OBD port itself to make sure it is not just the wiring for the port. My 07's CEL has been coming on periodically for a couple years. What Is OBD? See if you have power at the connector and then find a local shop with a Mastertech scantool that has a Honda card.

2nd: 2 weeks later, General mechanic with a shop said his scanner was unable to communicate with the computer. Went to have the car inspected and it failed because the OBDII port was not communicating. GM cars produced in 2003-2006 use J1850-VPW interface or CAN. So I made sure both units are compatible with CAN protocol. The first smog station tried twice and could not communicate with the vehicle. All of my cigarette lighter ports have power as does the OBDII port. The CEL has been on a while because the scanner has stopped linking like it had before.

(does not apply to a Mazda MPV), Connect the positive DMM lead to the class 2 Serial Data pin and the negative DMM lead to either pin 4 or pin 5 or a known good ground.

Usually the cigarette lighter fuse also powers the DLC (data link connector) with this fuse blown the scan tools can not communicate with the OBD2 system. Sullivans confirmed all their readers worked on it and could read the vin, but the state computer wouldn't work on it. If the OBD2 is truly unreadable by any scanner then it is probably missing either power or ground to that port. Next, you have to start measuring resistance on the OBD communication wires and find the breakdown.
